Jon took to the air above Annapolis with Jon's Lawns associate and pilot, Liam. Clear skies provided a great overhead view of Annapolis, the Naval Academy, the Bay Bridge and many of our lawns.
Now the leaf removal will have the lawn looking great for Thanksgiving.
This is the time to schedule a leaf removal to keep YOUR Annapolis lawn looking great through the Holidays.
Annapolis townhouses tend to have smaller yards than other homes, but a small yard is nothing to neglect because there is no place to hide. You can see every square inch! Today Jon's Lawns of Annapolis transformed the townhouse yard seen below.
Day #1 of the 2014 Maryland Turfgrass Conference at the University of Maryland was a focus on fertilizers. Some great information was presented on advances with polymer-coated sulfur-coated urea (PCSCU) slow release fertilizers which provide a slow, constant supply of nitrogen to grasses after the initial green-up response. Leaders in the field presented new research results regarding timing of applications and it's relevance in the "transition zone" which Maryland is a part of. Later on in the technology portion, things got futuristic with the topic of aerial drone use in the workplace. You never know when the first Jon's Lawns of Annapolis drone may fly into your neighborhood!
Day #2 showed a high of 20 degrees and our Maryland grasses were NOT growing. That made it great timing for a conference. Much was presented on new products in the herbicide field with research results showing the most effective product combinations and strategies for pre-emergent weed suppression and year long control. That being said, the very best weed controller out there is a healthy, dense lawn to crowd out the weeds.
But I know an awesome bird when I see one.
Jon's Lawns of Annapolis was working in Bay Highlands, Annapolis today when this guy swooped about 5 feet over my head and then landed in this tree. Did a bird search and it looks like he is a broad-winged hawk. Very impressive animal.
UPDATE: The neighborhood broad-winged hawk was spotted again. This time lounging on a client's hardscape patio.
Professional Fertilizer Applicator license arrived at Jon's Lawns of Annapolis today.
Maryland instituted new laws starting October 1, 2013 to ensure that anybody applying fertilizer in the state of Maryland does so in a way that is both healthy for the lawn and healthy for surrounding waterways including the Chesapeake Bay. http://mda.maryland.gov/Pages/fertilizer.aspx
More on this to come but rest assured that Jon's Lawns of Annapolis is legal and ready to "green-up" this spring!
A tale of two yards! Wow. After so many leaves pile up you may forget how nice your grass looks under there. Don't neglect your yard at this time of year and be sure to get the leaves up before heavy snow falls. Keep your grass healthy and happy.
It is easy for your backyard to get out of hand and sometimes it seems to have a mind of its own. Here are before and after pictures of an untamed yard that got shaped up with some trimming, weeding and fresh pine bark mulch.
There is no question that the Chesapeake Bay is a beautiful resource requiring protection. This is a picture that I took at my favorite, secret crabbing location. It is a handsome, 7 inch male crab.
The new Maryland fertilizer laws are in place to allow you to have a healthy lawn, while making sure the nutrients stay where they belong and out of our precious waterways.
